John Ellis is a multi-instrumentalist who plays Sax, Piano, woodwinds, flute, stick and hand Percussion. Originally from a classical background, John has developed a special interest in “World Music”. And has played tradition and crossover music in Africa, India, Middle Eastern, Cuba, Brazil, China, Sumatra, as well as playing in Contemporary, Jazz, Funk, Reggae, and Celtic bands. John has worked extensively with dance, working as a Contemporary Dance Accompanist (Unitec) for four years. He also plays for traditional African and Middle Eastern dance performances and classes. and has performed and written Live music for two theatre shows, ‘The Brothers Size’ and ‘One by One’ John has worked with, the Bedyondsemble (World Music), Jews Brothers Band ( Clezmer Music), The Mamaku Project (French/Kiwi Dub), Charanga Amadeus (Cuban Charanga), Midnight Fizz (Cool Covers), . John Ellis has played extensively with DJ’s in and around Auckland, was Resident Percussionist @ The Khuja Lounge for 5 years, and has worked at Sky City regularly with DJ’s; Jason Eli, Murray Sweetpants, Manual Bundy, and Chris Cox.
